Andrew Smith

Andrew obtained his PhD in history at Western University in Canada in 2005. His BA (1999) was from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. He now teaches in the international studies department at Coventry University. His first book was on the role of British bankers in the creation of the Canadian federation in 1867. He has since co-edited two collections on Canadian business history. He has published articles and book chapters on topics such as the history of taxation, ethnicity and international capital flows, race and business, entrepreneurship, and banking history. He was one of the founders of Canadian Business History Group / Groupe d’historiens des affaires canadiens. His current research projects include a study of HSBC in the postwar period and a paper on Western perceptions of entrepreneurship in late Qing China.
